BREAKING NEWS: Care home COVID-19 deaths fall to new low since first wave

The number of deaths involving COVID-19 in care homes in England and Wales has dropped to a new low not seen since the first wave in March 2020.

In its latest weekly update, the ONS reported 10 deaths involving COVID-19 in care homes in England and Wales in the week ending 28 May, down from 20 deaths in the week earlier.

Deaths involving COVID-19 accounted for 0.5% of all deaths in care homes, down from 1.1% in the week earlier.

The CQC reported 29,405 death notifications in care homes in England involving COVID-19 between 10 April 2020 and 4 June 2021, with 14 notifications occurring in the week to 4 June 2021.

Care Inspectorate Wales reported 1,920 deaths of residents involving COVID-19 in care homes in Wales between 1 March 2020 and 20 May 2021.
