Care home COVID-19 related deaths have fallen for the third week from a peak in mid-September, according to the latest ONS figures.
In its latest weekly update, the ONS recorded 71 COVID-related deaths in care homes in England and Wales in the week ending 1 October, down from 79 in the previous week.
COVID-related deaths accounted for 3.5% of all deaths in care homes, down from 3.8% in the week earlier.
CQC notifications of deaths involving COVID-19 in care homes in England rose, however, to 52 in the week ending 8 October, up from 44 in the week earlier.
COVID-19 deaths in England fell on 11 October to 15 from 34 on 10 October. The seven-day average of COVID-19 deaths stood at 83.
