A new build 60-bed care home in Cumbria may finally be completed this year after a new contractor took over the project.
Parkview Gardens in Barrow was originally scheduled to open in 2012, and would have replaced four care homes in the area.
But the £7 million project was dogged with problems including groundwork and drainage issues, causing work to be delayed by several years.
The original contractor, GB Building Solutions, battled to keep the construction on track, but in March last year, with the building almost finished, the company went into administration and the site was silenced for a year.
This week, according to local newspaper North West Evening Mail, work has restarted after Esh Border Construction was brought in to finish the job.
A spokesperson for the county council told the newspaper that the building will be finished by the summer. “Following a competitive tender exercise, a new contractor was appointed, work has started and is scheduled to be completed in June ready for the home to be occupied in July/August,” he said.
