The care home operator said it was installing additional CCTV after vandals damaged a window and a fire door at the service.

“As a precaution, the home is installing additional CCTV with night vision to provide evidence to the police should there ever be any further occurrences.”

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson commented: “We have been made aware of a couple of incidents involving youths throwing stones at the windows of North Park Care Home, resulting in the windows being broken.

“This is causing considerable alarm and distress to the elderly residents who reside at the home. Extra patrols will be carried out in this area and anyone seen to be throwing stones at the windows will be dealt with robustly.”
