Barchester Healthcare has announced that it will increase staff pay to above the National Living Wage (NLW) or the National Minimum Wage (NMW) from April.
The company, which supports almost 12,000 residents across 236 homes in the UK, will add to its staff benefits and rewards, paying staff ‘more than other care providers’, with overall compensation increasing by 7.5% between 2019 and 2020.
This latest move will mean all staff from April will be paid above NLW and NMW.
As part of ongoing commitment to investing in the quality of care for residents and patients, Barchester also offers staff a Profit Share Scheme and if this beats its profit target, Barchester will reimburse one year’s NMC’s registration fees for eligible nurses.
Through last year’s profit share scheme, the highest payment was over £1,000, and the PINs of over 1,000 nurses were paid.
In addition, when a service achieves a ‘Good’ rating (or equivalent) by the Care Inspectorate Barchester will award every member of the team a £100 gift card and for an ‘Outstanding’ rating (or equivalent), the reward is a £500 gift card each.
Barchester’s Refer a Friend scheme can see staff earn between £250 – £500 for introducing a friend to the company for employment.
Barchester CEO, Pete Calveley, comments: “We will continue to invest in our staff by providing the best possible training, pay and benefits packages in our sector. We will continue to invest in our new build programme to bring our high quality care to more locations, along with further employment and we will continue to invest in our existing homes and hospitals to ensure they are the most comfortable for our residents and patients, including the best facilities for residents, patients and staff, and new technology to support the delivery of care.”
