Strictly Ballroom dance star Anton du Beke has made a surprise appearance at a Wolverhampton care home to thank local carers on behalf of the nation.
The TV star said thank you to staff at Sunrise Senior Living’s Tettenhall care home after a national poll by Richmond Sausages revealed carers as one of the nation’s favourite workforces.
Anton said: “The team at Sunrise Senior Living do an amazing job, and I really hope they enjoyed the surprise that Richmond and I put together for them.
“Carers do such important work – always in high spirits and with a welcoming smile on their face. It’s fantastic that they were recognised as one of the Nation’s Favourite workforces, and I’d personally like to say ‘thank you’, on behalf of the nation, for the work that they do.”
To celebrate the recognition, Anton teamed up with Richmond Sausages to transform the centre’s activity centre into a glamorous ballroom.
The unsuspecting carers, who believed they were having a regional meeting, ended up being treated to a dancing class with the ballroom master.
Geraldine Bunning, Activities and Volunteers Co-ordinator at Sunrise Senior Living, said: “We’re all such big fans of Anton’s so it was a thrill to have him here at Sunrise to say thank-you to our kind, hard-working carers. Getting the residents involved to show their appreciation and join the dance class was also so special – it’s not a day we’ll forget in a hurry!”
Dawn Spencer, Marketing Director, Richmond Sausages, said: “At Richmond we’re all about bringing people together and we’re on a mission to celebrate all of the nation’s favourite things – the simple things that make us feel good.
“Our nation is made up of some amazing people, so we thought it was time we said thank you to these everyday heroes, like the amazing team at Sunrise Senior Living, and all the other carers throughout the UK who provide incredible support to millions of people on a daily basis.”
