Leading care home operators Avery Healthcare and Signature Senior Lifestyle have invested in rapid COVID tests.

Avery has rolled-out 20-minute antibody tests at its care homes to enable families to join residents during their settling-in day.

Provided a family member passes the finger-print test they are now able to join their relative in their bedroom to help unpack and enjoy the settling in process. Relatives are also being required to wear PPE and follow strict protocols.

Signature Senior Lifestyle, meanwhile, has invested in 15-minute COVID-19 antigen tests to provide reassurance and help its communities retain a sense of normality, including the provision of carefully managed visits.

The trials are initially being held at Signature’s Wandsworth Common care home (pictured), which has had zero COVID cases to date.

Residents are being offered the opportunity to take the tests in their cars before entering the care home via a separate entrance.

Kay Cox, COO of Signature Senior Lifestyle, said: “Our regular testing has worked well so far but we are continually looking for ways to go one step further. The health and safety of our residents, families and staff remains our number one priority, so we have made the decision to invest in 15-minute tests to further bolster our capabilities, providing almost immediate reassurance. This is a challenging time for all and we truly understand how much visits mean to residents and their loved ones, so we are doing everything in our power to allow these to take place with dignity and a sense of normality.”
