Abbeyfield has announced the closure of a loss-making day centre at its Bradbury House care home in Gosforth, Cumbria.
Services offered by the home, including a volunteer club, clubs for people with dementia and a community day, are being shelved due to a lack of numbers.
An Abbeyfield spokesperson said: “It is with regret that we advise that The Abbeyfield Society will no longer be able to continue to provide a day centre service at Bradbury House.
“This is sadly due to costs not being met for a number of years and the fact that centre cannot continue to run at a loss.”
A meeting will be held at the centre later this month to answer concerns from service users.
Abbeyfield added: “This is a sad time for Abbeyfield as we have been providing support through the day centre to a significant number of older people within Gosport since 1999 and have made many good friends through the day centre.
“Abbeyfield are committed to continuing to provide existing care and support through Bradbury House and into the future through planned further development of the site.”
Cumbria City Council is assessing how it will continue to provide day services.
