Season Senior Living, part of the One Housing group, has opened the first of its next generation developments in Tottenham, north London.
Protheroe House, which has been delivered in partnership with Haringey Council, was officially launched by Deputy Mayor of London Joanne McCartney.
Mick Sweeney, chief executive of One Housing, said: “We urgently need to build more appropriate and affordable homes for the rapidly growing number of older people in the most in demand areas of the country. Our new Season developments, including Protheroe House, bring the best of senior living to everyone.”
Season Senior Living aims to create 600 apartments for older people to live independently in London and the south east.
Its research has shown there is a shortage of 400 homes for older people in Tottenham alone.
Protheroe House includes 52 one and two bedroom homes as well as spa, bar and restaurant.
The scheme is one of two new Season senior living developments in Haringey. Nearby Lorenco House, another £9 million construction, is set to deliver a further 50 senior living homes. All of the homes are offered at an affordable rent.
Residents of the energy efficient apartments are expected to pay around £5 a week for heating and hot water.
