66 sexual offences reported in Devon and Cornwall homes since 2013

Devon and Cornwall authorities have revealed that 66 sexual offences have been reported within care homes in the area in just two and a half years.

A freedom of information inquiry from local newspaper Plymouth Herald asked for details of offences across the spectrum of adult social care accommodation.

It found that 66 sexual offences were reported between summer of 2013 and the end of 2015.

Crimes reported included three rape allegations, 53 incidents of sexual assault on a female, seven of sexual assault on a male and two of sex with a person with a mental disorder, Plymouth Herald reports.

The freedom of information request asked for details of reported crimes from residential homes, homes for people with disabilities and homes for older people as well as sheltered accommodation.
