Helen is the home manager of Dearnevale, an Exemplar Care Home rated Outstanding by the CQC. In addition to traditional complex nursing care packages for people with brain injuries and complex neurodisabilities, Helen is successfully running an Exemplar innovation known as OneCare, which creates specially adapted individual houses and flats for service users who do not require the wrap-around care of a home, but still require support for their nursing needs.
The OneCare services are home to four service users, each at a different stage of their condition or rehabilitation. OneCare services can adapt to suit people’s unique needs, so at Dearnevale this includes a service user with a degenerative neuro disability who is still able to live independently and some individuals on a rehabilitation pathway following brain and spinal injuries.
Operations Manager, Claire Barnfield, said: “Helen has created a very special home at Dearnevale and her OneCare services are shining examples of the care we want to provide across all Exemplar homes. The OneCare services allow people with some really complex needs to live with true independence in the community.
“Helen even arranged for one new resident, Vicky, to bring Mr Darcy with her when she moved in. Vicky and Mr Darcy – a very friendly Labrador – are now firm favourites at Dearnevale and often pop into the care home after a walk. Helen’s hard work, dedication and close attention to the little things which make life special for people – whatever their needs – makes Dearnevale outstanding and she is a truly inspirational home manager.”
