Saad Baig may be only 26, but he is already Care UK’s youngest home manager and aims to be the company’s youngest regional director before he is 32. From his first experience at the age of 15, caring for his father, to his current position as manager of The Burroughs, he knows that care is where his heart lies.
When his father was increasingly affected by early-onset dementia, Saad helped his mother care for him, giving him an invaluable insight into what residents’ experience. Saad’s mother worked in a care home and, following his father’s death, Saad started a part-time job there too, taking on the challenge alongside his schoolwork.
Eventually he became a virtual full-time employee – despite studying for a law degree. After graduation he began working in a law firm, but his heart was not in it and he knew his future lay in care. By 22, he was a senior carer, then team leader and then unit manager, before achieving his first home manager role at 25.
His focus is on making a difference to residents’ lives. At his first home, Whitby Dene, through the home’s Wishing Tree initiative, he helped one resident receive a blessing from the Pope at the Vatican, another to fly an aircraft again and another to go to Legoland to experience the thrills of the rides.
He has demonstrated potential, a commitment to the highest standards of care and compliance and a dedication to residents’ interests and well-being.
