Graeme grew up in the first care home for the elderly in Leeds, he would watch TV with the residents in the lounge and chat to them.
At the weekend he would make them breakfast so his mother could have a lie-in, this helped shape him into the man he is today. He often mentions that living with older people has given him tremendous empathy towards them and made him very aware of how vulnerable they are. Using his experience Graeme’s vision is to transform how care homes should be and this is clearly demonstrated by the Springfield Care Village portfolio.
Springfield Healthcare currently operates four facilities with the fifth due to open in September bringing the numbers of beds in the portfolio to over 400. Each home is unique but they share characteristics, every home is situated in the very heart of the community, and there is a sense of family togetherness and well-being throughout. The flagship home is The Chocolate Works Care Village in York, the former headquarters of Terry’s chocolate empire which opened in June 2017. The care village has won four awards to date, including the prestigious Pinders Healthcare Design Awards for ‘Best Care Village’.
The truly outstanding feature, and testament to Graeme’s vision, is the vast central double height glazed atrium which has been preserved and transformed into a unique ‘marketplace’ setting for residents and visitors, complete with café, restaurant, spa, hairdresser, gym and even its own pub The Duke of York! Graeme is a true innovator in care because of his incredible passion for delivering care to the elderly within truly exceptional settings, with residents enjoying the quality of life they deserve.
