Richard has been responsible for spearheading what is increasingly recognised as the most ambitious new build programme in the care home sector.
He has opened 29 new homes since 2013, and is on track to deliver a further 19 by the end of 2019. Once opened, these homes will add an extra 1,300 beds to Care UK’s already 7,400 strong inventory.
He has played a key role in devising and delivering the company’s ground-breaking partnership with Suffolk County Council (SCC). This has involved a five year programme of works which began with Care UK taking on 16 ageing facilities from SCC and then investing £80m to replace them with 10 purpose built facilities which expanded the council’s nursing and dementia capacity and provided additional opportunities for self-funding residents across the county. The development programme drew to a close in January last year and was recently recognised at the Health Investor Awards as the Public Private Partnership of the Year.
This programme of work would challenge the most committed and tenacious in the sector, so it’s testament to Richard’s energy that in addition he is also responsible for managing a portfolio of 115 homes and a rolling programme of investment and refurbishment. In the last 18 months this has included a significant programme of capital investment to provide expansionary opportunities and additional facilities to deliver improved care quality.
