Pushing limits is part of Ben’s nature, he has been relentless in his drive to transform the lives of older adults initially by getting care home residents active on an unprecedented scale and subsequently ensuring those living both in care services and still at home have every opportunity to live life to the full.
Oomph!’s highlights over the last 12 months have included beginning work with local authorities, housing providers and CSPs, being shortlisted for the UK Active Flame Awards innovation category and being shortlisted for major Sport England funding.
Ben has been recognised as Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year, the 1st social entrepreneur to win the award. He has won UnLtd’s Big Venture Challenge, and secured Big Lottery Fund funding.
This year has seen the launch of Out & About, a radical new transport service solution for care home providers. The initiative will see the provision of 300 minibuses servicing 3,000 care homes over the next three years.
Ben last year took up the reigns as Chair of the Care Workers Charity. Recent performance has been poor, with less than £10k in income and £5k in grant awards last year. Ben has brought in a new start-up CEO and has already turned around the charity. Q1 2017 saw grant awards totalling more than the last three years combined. The Supporters Club was established in February to generate a sustainable income stream for grant giving and in four months, the club has gained over 20 care operator partners, which cover over 400 care homes, 15,000 staff and will generate over £100k in income.
