Annette is very focussed on ensuring the care provided by Starr Hills Care Home is person-centred. She sees the person as a whole, considers all the positives and helps them maintain their independence. She encourages the 36 residents to have a voice in the running of Starr Hills and encourages them to speak up about changes that will improve their daily living.
She said: “As a Manager, I think you must know your residents and families on a personal level. We feel a great way of ensuring we provide a quality home is by making sure that everything we do has a positive impact upon the residents; this is their home.”
Part of her success is developing her team, encouraging them to be their best and always involving them. Annette believes keeping residents active is key to their wellbeing and has implemented activities three times a day.
“To us, a quality home includes a wide variation of activities that have been planned by the residents themselves,” Annette said.
“We also try to make sure residents get a chance to spend time with people outside the home, as well as interactions with animals and children. This is so important to residents as it’s a different person to talk to and a chance to interact with pets they may have had at home.”
