It’s been a year to remember for Woodlands and Hill Brow owner Alison Lee. One of its three homes, the 40-bed Woodlands care home was rated Outstanding by the CQC shortly after it celebrated the group’s 40th anniversary.
Woodlands & Hill Brow was founded by Alison’s mother Gillian in order to look after her grandmother. Establishing a strong and stable management team has been key to Woodlands’ success with manager Vicky Ayling having been with the home for 17 years.
Staff training is key for Alison and her team who achieved Investors in People Gold status in 2013. Staff are incentivised through competitive wages, annual bonuses and a monthly ‘staff achiever’ award.
Alison’s homes are shining examples of how to provide thoughtful, innovative and personalised care. Simple touches designed to provide person centred care at Woodlands include a quiet area in one of its corridors for one resident who simply enjoys watching passing traffic. A TV camera has been set up in a bird box so that residents can watch birds as they feed in the dining room. A packed activities itinerary includes animal petting sessions.
