Equipping the more than million-and-a-half care workers in the UK with the skills they need to provide the best possible level of care is the job remit of Sharon Allen.
Skills for Care and the National Skills Academy for Social Care provide practical tools and support to help adult social care organisations in England recruit, develop and lead their workforce.
By working with organisations and sharing best practice, Skills for Care helps to raise quality and standards and make sure dignity and respect are at the heart of service delivery.
Last year’s initiatives led by Sharon included the launch of the Skills for Care ‘Finding and keeping workers’ online resource to help care home operators train and retain their staff.
In her busy life, Sharon is a member of the Think Local, Act Personal (TLAP) programme board, chairs the Homeless Link Homelessness Transition Fund grants panel, is a board member and chair of the Operational Committee for Cambridge Housing Society and is also a member of the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO) board.
She was awarded an OBE in June 2015 for services to social care, homeless people and housing.
