Her dedication and passion have taken Karen Knight on a stratospheric rise through the ranks of the care industry since beginning her career as a cleaner in one Norfolk County Council’s residential homes more than 30 years ago.
After she shone in a number of senior management roles with the child and community services, Karen was the obvious choice to run newly formed Norse Care Ltd which took over the council’s responsibility for residential and housing with care schemes in August 2011.
After having been asked to take on the council’s ageing 27 residential homes, the operator has gone from strength to strength under Karen’s leadership to become the largest care provider in Norfolk. Norse Care’s ambitious new build programme culminated with the impressive £19 million Bowthorpe Care Village project on the outskirts of Norwich, which includes a 80-bed dementia care home, 92-apartment housing with care scheme and a central community hub.
Karen was among the care home executives who backed the Remain camp in this year’s Brexit vote arguing that it was key for the sector to be able to recruit from as wide a pool of candidates as possible.
