A ceremony has been held to mark a milestone in the construction of a £10 million care and dementia home in Bingley, Bradford.
Care home operator Abbeyfield’s Fernbank Extra Care home will include 49 one- and two-bedroom apartments, a dementia wing with 30 rooms for the care of residents and a community hub.
Richard Virr, Abbeyfield director of development, said: “We are delighted that this much needed project is progressing and has reached this key milestone.
“This prestigious and specialist state of the art development will benefit older people and people living with dementia in the Bingley and surrounding areas and we look forward to working with Bardsley Construction Limited, the design team, as well as our funders and stakeholders, to complete the build in the next few months.”
The 84,000 sq ft development, which is being financed with the support of Clydesdale & Yorkshire Bank, will cover seven floors and feature communal facilities for residents such as a restaurant and lounge, hair and beauty salon, laundry, treatment rooms and a kiosk.
There will also be a kitchen and extensive landscaping including secure ‘sensory’ gardens and roof terraces for residents and visitors.
Guest at the ceremony, Lord Patel of Bradford, currently university director of strategic partnerships, said: “I am honoured and privileged to have been associated with the Topping Out ceremony for this amazing new development – a development that will provide high quality care for older people and those with dementia.
“The holistic way in which the scheme has been developed, encapsulating physical, mental wellbeing and community engagement will be central to its success. Key to the success of the project has been the partnership between all the many agencies that have come together to turn a vision into a reality.”
