Virtual reality opens up new worlds for Somerset Care residents

A virtual reality (VR) headset is opening up new worlds for residents at a Somerset Care home.

Residents at Frome care home have been given the state-of-the-art equipment as part of Somerset Care’s investment into the use of technology.

Frome resident Freda (pictured) was the first to try out the headset by escaping the winter gloom and experiencing sunny Croatia and Madrid.

Manager Karen Reeves said: “We’re really excited to have a VR headset and can’t wait for all the residents to try it out. It was amazing to see how much Freda’s face lit up when she shared her experience with the others. With the use of technology we’re pleased to be able to take armchair travel to the next level.”

The headsets were set up with assistance from Liz, Somerset Care’s Care Technologist.

Somerset Care is a sector leader in using technology and innovation in order to improve resident well-being and provide more person centred care.
