A One Housing development at a premium Thameside location will offer in-house care to elderly residents.
The 14-storey, 84 home Bankhouse affordable development in Vauxhall opens its doors to the public next month.
Group Director of Housing Care and Support at One Housing, Kevin Beirne, said: “Older age is being redefined for an active generation and many retirees don’t want to move away from the communities that they have helped to build. Apartments like these are urgently needed if we are going to make sure the two million people over 50 who live in London have high-quality places to live.”
Bankhouse is the flagship of a new generation of senior living apartments for the over 55s in London being offered by One Housing.
Each apartment features good accessibility, natural light and wet room showers. To help reduce isolation, residents will be encouraged to socialise in the communal areas which include a landscaped garden, lounge and dining area with kitchen facilities. All residents will also have access to care from One Housing’s award-winning Season Senior Living team, which will offer tailored care with the aim of helping everyone at Bankhouse enjoy as much independence as possible.
The scheme was built in partnership between One Housing and Berkeley St James’ as part of the Corniche development that stands opposite the Houses of Parliament. The apartments are all affordable with a mixture of 36 shared ownership and 48 socially rented, one- and two-bed homes available. These are first affordable homes delivered on-site at the Corniche, a part of the Albert Embankment Plaza, a St James Development.
