Harrogate based Orchard Care Homes has become the latest provider to roll-out an anti-choking device.
Orchard follows New Care, which became the first in the UK to install Dechoker devices in all of its homes earlier this year (see New Care is first in UK to install life-saving Dechoker across all homes).
The system subsequently saved its first life at a New Care home in Manchester (see Airway clearance device saves resident’s life).
Matt Oakley of Dechoker UK said, “It was a pleasure to work with Orchard Care who embraced the Dechoker from the first conversation we had.
“From there to a decision, delivery, meeting and working with their training executives went quickly and smoothly. We are thrilled that Orchard Care took the decision to install Dechoker for the safety of both their residents and care teams.”
The Dechoker is designed to remove an obstruction from the airway in a choking emergency. It can be used quickly and easily by care staff regardless if a resident is lying down or sitting upright in a chair, or wheelchair and costs under £100.
The device will now be deployed across Orchard’s more than 40 care homes.
