Hallmark Care Homes has pledged to raise £100,000 this year for Alzheimer’s Research UK and The Care Workers Charity.
Employees and residents from Hallmark’s 17 homes and Central Support Office are embarking on fundraising activities for the two causes, with the aim of raising £50,000 for each life-changing charity.
Hallmark Care Homes Managing Director Avnish Goyal said: “We are absolutely delighted to be fundraising for these two important charities and be Alzheimer’s Research UK’s first national care fundraising partner!
“As we care for residents living with dementia, we have seen first-hand the devastating effects it can have on an individual and their loved ones, which is why we wholly support Alzheimer’s Research UK’s mission to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025.
“We are also passionate about the health and welfare of our team members, and care workers alike. We hope this money will equally aid dedicated care workers in need as they do a fantastic job and it is important that there is a support network available to them should they fall on hard times.”
The fundraising will help fuel Alzheimer’s Research UK’s dementia research, while The Care Workers Charity will use the money to provide financial support to current, former and retired care workers who have fallen on hard times.
Fundraising activities planned so far this year include; sporting events, raffles, bake sales, non-uniform days and a luxury, live auction event, which will take place in London in September.
Director of Supporter-led Fundraising at Alzheimer’s Research UK, Lucy Squance said: “We’re delighted to have the support of Hallmark Care Homes in our effort to defeat dementia. There are currently 850,000 people in the UK with condition and around 311,000 of these are living in care homes.
“This is why it is so vital that we invest in dementia research now, so we can bring about the life-changing treatments that will improve millions of lives impacted by dementia. This will also alleviate the pressures dementia has on our health and social services.”
CEO of The Care Workers Charity, Alex Ramamurthy said: “We are incredibly grateful to Hallmark Care Homes for taking on this challenge. These funds will allow us to help more care workers across the UK who find themselves in a crisis and need support.
“Partnerships like the one between Hallmark and CWC are crucial to raising awareness of the cause, raising the necessary funds to allow us to continue our work, and develop further services to our nation’s 1.5 million care workers.”
