Care home construction and development partner Castleoak has submitted plans for a 70-bed care home in Abergavenny.

Plans for 1.6 hectares of homes,  a 61-bed Premier Inn, a Brewer’s Fayre, Costa Coffee and McDonald’s have already been approved for the site, the South Wales Argus reports.

The care home site covers 0.6 hectares and will include 70 bedrooms, a communal area and ancillary accommodation, including assisted bathrooms, guest room, private dining, kitchen, laundry, nurse stations and drug store. There will also be a library, gym and cinema on the ground floor.

The application says the care home will be an “important amenity for the local community and generate new job opportunities”.

It is proposed that the home will be a two-storey building with ancillary spaces dedicated to a small wing.

The site originally formed part of Grove Farm and is located on the eastern edge of the village of Llanfoist, 1km from Abergavenny town centre.

Earlier this year, Castleoak strengthened its senior management team as part of its five-year 2020 business growth strategy (see Castleoak build senior management team to deliver growth through to 2020).

The business has secured a number of significant deals this year including a £16.6m contract to expand an Anchor retirement village in March (see Castleoak lands £16.6m to expand Anchor retirement village).
