Care home prices surged by almost a quarter in 2016 while quality was down by almost 10%, according to data compiled by TrustedCare.co.uk
The analysis shows care home weekly fees up by 23% from £557 to £686 while the number of services rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ fell by 9%. Nursing homes weekly fees were up by 34% from £692 to £924.
Mark Walford, CEO of TrustedCare.co.uk, said: “The data shows once more that there is a complex mix of factors that affect the quality and cost of care, and that there isn’t a strong correlation between areas of affluence and local care quality as one might expect, despite a strong link to price of care. Instead, factors such as local employment markets, local authority commissioning rates and the level of co-operation between local NHS and social care teams are sure to play into the mix.
“However, the CQC inspections provide only a snapshot of the service at a moment in time, therefore we appeal to those who are using or have used a care service, or their loved ones, to visit our website and share their experiences. This will help us to build an even more detailed picture of the market and help guide those who are in the process of looking for care and support.”
Herefordshire came out on top in terms of overall care quality with 92% of providers rated good, although this was down from 97% in 2015.
Berkshire came top for care home quality with 93% of services rated good.
Rutland was number one in the nursing home league table with both its services rated good.
West Yorkshire was the worst county in terms of overall care, care home and nursing home quality.
Buckinghamshire was the most expensive care home county with an average weekly fee of £907 while ranking 17th in terms of quality. East Yorkshire was the cheapest with an average fee of £511.
Nursing home residents in Rutland got what they paid for, however, with the county the most expensive (£1,200 per week) and the first in terms of quality. South Yorkshire was the cheapest with an average weekly fee of £670.
