Rachel is a registered nurse with over 30 years’ experience in the care sector. Since taking up her current post in 2016, Rachel has been a key player in Care UK’s journey to hold the top ranking for quality in a league table of CQC ratings for the five largest care home providers in England.
Rachel joined Care UK in 2013 as regional operations director, successfully overseeing the implementation of the company’s award-winning partnership with Suffolk County Council to deliver 16 brand new care homes. She is a member of Care UK’s residential care executive team, with responsibility for governance, health and safety and, ultimately, for the quality of care delivered to over 7,000 residents.
Rachel is the driving force behind a ‘good to great’ project which seeks to foster a culture of continuous improvement across all Care UK homes. This is coupled with a process for identifying quality risk indicators much earlier and mobilising additional support for homes going through a period of challenge. Other areas of innovation championed by Rachel include introducing a new digital approach to managing medication in homes, a resident dependency tool to assist the homes in setting rotas and new quality assurance processes to improve care at both a local and organisational level.
A partnership with the University of Worcester to deliver improvements in dementia care has been huge success with extensive training at all levels of the organisation and Dementia Champions appointed and trained in a large number of homes.
