A registered nurse Sandra has worked in the sector for over 20 years in a variety of senior quality and operational roles. She returned to Avery in 2015 to focus on strategic elements required for business growth, including the development of robust systems and structures, development of innovative programmes to ensure excellent care and service, professional and quality leadership, risk management and continuous improvement, and regulatory compliance.
Leading an expert support function team, which includes care development, dementia care, hospitality, culinary, well-being and activity, and training and development, she has led the delivery of a wide variety of sector-leading initiatives to improve quality, safety and efficiency.
These include ‘Integrated Governance’ – a new model which is a sector first to cover all aspects of good governance in order to be safe, effectively run and customer focused. This has improved compliance, organisational information flows from ‘floor to board’ and business processes ensuring that outcomes can be measured.
‘Wellbeing’ is a new and unique well-being model and programme, importantly with outcome measures, that places quality of life and fulfilment for residents at the forefront of care.
‘Hotel with Care’ introduces hospitality and culinary practices from the hotel sector to areas such as restaurant service, concierge, hostesses and staff training.
‘Staff development’ the Advanced Senior Carer Programme (currently undergoing independent accreditation) has been successful in adjusting the skill mix to support the nurse role, reducing agency spend, improving continuity of care and providing care staff with an additional career pathway.
