2016 LEADERS IN CARE CARE QUALITY & COMPLIANCE: Ed Watkinson, director of care quality, Quality Compliance Systems

Ed Watkinson,

Ed Watkinson became a care quality leader the hard way, first earning his spurs by rising through the ranks from care assistant to registered manager, area manager, care manager, and senior commissioner.

Before joining the Quality Compliance Systems (QCS), Ed worked as a regulation manager for one of the big three care home operators, Barchester Healthcare. During a secondment with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in 2014, Ed played a key role in the development, piloting and roll out of the CQC’s new inspection methodology as part of their policy team.

He was appointed as Head of Care Quality and Compliance with QCS in November 2015. As part of the senior management team at QCS, Ed leads the development of new quality assurance, compliance and care management policies and procedures.

This year, the QCS began issuing advice in its monthly updates on how care homes can achieve Outstanding ratings as part of moving from ensuring services are always compliant, to helping them achieve the highest possible rating.
